Rye Castle dates back to 1249 and was used as a defence against French attacks in the 14th century. The tower was later used as a prison and you can still peek into the cells where prisoners were chained up.

For history lovers, Rye Castle contains part of Rye Museum, so make a visit if you want to learn more about the town’s past.
